It’s a rather controversial topic, but let me explain why I think that other traders’ results don’t matter.
Starting my journey with trading, like most people, I had a tough time. I thought that by reading a few books, learning how it works, I would know how to trade. Of course, as with everything in life, I thought that with the right knowledge, the market would open up to me and I would start making big money.
Of course, reality verified what I thought about it, but I didn’t give up, continually seeking answers, learning, and studying further market analysis techniques. After some time and no success, I understood that I needed someone to guide me. So I started looking for people who were successful in the market. Unfortunately, at that time, there weren’t many of them and the problem was finding them because YouTube wasn’t as developed as it is now – although I don’t know if that was good or bad because today we have too much junk information there.
After a long search, I managed to find people who seemed trustworthy to me, but despite their success, I gained additional knowledge and a better understanding of the market, but I couldn’t translate it into my results. After more frustration, I decided that I needed a trading mentor to guide me. It was a transformative experience for me, changing my approach to the market. Thanks to trading mentoring, I understood exactly what I was missing, what my strengths and weaknesses were and I learned that trading isn’t about our level of knowledge and the strategy we use, but our mental attitude.
That’s when I also understood that other traders’ results don’t matter. Why?
The fact that other traders are successful in the market doesn’t mean that you will be too. It only means that the strategy they use has an edge in the market and that trader is mentally prepared and uses it with the right approach. I know it sounds quite brutal, but that’s the truth. Why?
Look at how many materials are available on YouTube today, where people share strategies for free, share results and yet most people still lose and constantly look for a new strategy that will be better than the previous one. This happens because trading is mainly about the right mental attitude, not the strategy. If the strategy had such a huge significance, we would have many more people who consistently make money. Remember that you enforce the strategy with your mindset, so how you think matters enormously. You must take responsibility for yourself and your trading decisions. Stop being enchanted by others and their results; it’s irrelevant and will only confirm that a given strategy works and that trader makes money, but that’s it.
The truth may be hard to accept, but there’s a way around it. The best way is to have a trading mentor who will guide you through the whole process, but remember to find one who will not only show you the strategy but also help you work with your trading mindset.
